Day 263: Merry Christmas

25 Dec

Last night we ate a magnificent dinner at Anna’s by the Sea in Gold Beach,Oregon.  Our dear friends Scott and Gina had told us about this place and we made reservations and headed out as soon as we could to be there in time for dinner.
We thoroughly enjoyed a meal and met the musician who had sung during the time we were dining.  How could we have known that he was the brother- in-law to our friend and neighbor Ellie?
We chatted a while and I told him about my pie project and he asked if he could suggest a pie recipient.  I said,”of course ” and he told me about a lady who cared for people but was experiencing difficulties herself. And so this afternoon I delivered a quiche to a sweet lady that I might never had met but for this pie journey.
And on this Christmas day I want to leave you with a quote from an amazing man, Dr. Seuss.

In his story “The Grinch who stole Christmas” near the end we have just seen the Grinch steal all the food and presents from the residents of Whoville.  Yet when they awaken on Christmas morning they are still filled with joy.  And the Grinch realizes,”Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. …maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more. And what happened then? Well in Whoville they say that the Grinch’s small heart grew three sizes that day.” If it’s possible, I think this happened to me today. I feel so blessed to be able to give the simple gift of a pie.  Merry Christmas  to all, and to all a good night.

Karen, thank you, so much, for the wonderful quiche you delivered this afternoon. My clients and I enjoyed it for a light evening meal after our big Christmas dinner. It was such a refreshing change of pace. You are a ray of sunshine, giving of yourself and lifting spirits wherever you go……………I know you lifted mine. God bless you, Connie H.

      Connie,
Thank you for your kind words… and I am very glad that you enjoyed the quiche. You can thank the folks at “Anna’s by the Sea” for recommending you. It’s nice to know that when I tell people what I am doing, often they will suggest the name of a friend to bring a pie to. They want to help me in this act of giving… and that seems so perfect.
      My best to you,
      Karen

And to you Debbie! Thank you so much for encouraging this pie journey… you could easily have said “That is the craziest idea I have ever heard of” but you didn’t. And so you are as much to thank (or blame hee hee) for giving away 264 pies to date! Thank you for belief in this zany quest and for your friendship.

I’m happy to hear you 2 are out having fun while my cousins are away ;~) I love the magnet you sent to us and I loved telling the girls about the pie project. They asked if you charged for your pies and if you gave them to people you didn’t know. It must be so much fun to speak with all these people that you may not have otherwise met and they of course must be happy to meet you. You have such a gentle, loving spirit. To just be in your presence is a blessing. Merry Christmas! Xoxo

You are too sweet! And I know that for a fact… because I sent a check for you and no present, and who did you buy for? The girls! I had a feeling that might happen. Oh well, at least I was able to help you do something you wanted to do.
